More than a decade ago, Jerry Joyce found himself looking for a retirement community for his mother, Berenice Kivett. Tired of living alone in Weeping Water, Nebraska, fixing meals for just herself, and dealing with the burdens of keeping up a home, Berenice wanted a safe, clean, comfortable place where she could enjoy a variety of activities and the companionship of others while still living independently. Yet everywhere they looked something was missing -- Put simply, nothing felt like home.

Jerry answered Berenice's wishes by creating The Legacy, a new concept in retirement living. The result was an enjoyable, relaxed, enriched lifestyle and a more vibrant, more manageable way of life -- a concept we now proudly call "Legacy Living".
